Life in the Lowcountry

Andrew and I just got back from spending a few days in the lowcountry of South Carolina. We started our trip by heading to Charleston around lunchtime on Friday for a wedding I was in this past weekend for one of my college friends.

I met Lindsay, the bride, my freshman year of college when I auditioned for one of Clemson’s a cappella choirs. I had to audition in front of the current choir (talk about intimidating), and Lindsay was one of those members. Thankfully, I made the choir and also made dear friends along the way through the a cappella choir and a larger choir we were part of. I refer to them as my “singing friends,” and it’s like a real life episode of Glee when we hangout! They’re so fun!

Lindsay and her husband met while getting their master’s degrees at the College of Charleston. They have multiple degrees in music and are extremely talented. I always tell her that their kids are going to be so talented – they can just have a little family band! Since Kyle and Lindsay are both music people, I knew music was going to be a major part of the wedding. Let me tell you – they did not disappoint. During the ceremony, a 20 person choir sang two songs, both of which were songs we sang in choir at Clemson. I’ve never heard more beautiful music at a wedding ceremony. It gave me chills and brought tears to my eyes.

The reception was at the Francis Marion hotel in downtown Charleston. Momentum Party Band played at the reception, and they had people dancing from their very first note until the end. I had never been to a reception with a live band before, but I’m a major fan now. Lindsay and Kyle even got up on stage and performed!  I’m not talking about some drunken, karaoke performance – they sounded incredible! I mean, who does that?

I hardly took any pictures all weekend – guess that means I was having a lot of run, right? I posted a few below. The music cake and the guitar pictured were from the rehearsal dinner. Isn’t that the coolest cake? They also had all their guests sign the guitar, which I thought was really unique.

After the reception, Andrew and I drove to Fripp Island where my family was vacationing for the week. Since we were already in that part of the state, we decided to add a few days to our trip to enjoy the beach. We had never been to Fripp Island before, but we loved it. It’s very private and we had the most perfect weather – breezy and sunny, without being too hot. Fripp Island also has deers everywhere – they walk right up to the yard and remain completely unfazed when cars drive by.

I love the beach and it was great to spend time with family and have a few days of down time at the end of a busy month. Definitely wishing we were still there!

Wedding Weekend #1

One of my sweetest friends and college roommate got married this past weekend. I met Lindsay through my FCA small group at the very beginning of my freshman year of college, and we ended up living together during our junior and senior years of college. She and Thomas, her now husband, started dating around the same time that Andrew and I started dating. Andrew and Thomas lived on the same hall their freshman year and were already friends before we started dating, and Andrew was actually the one that introduced Thomas and Lindsay to each other.

Andrew and I both had a lot of fun hanging out with the two of them during college, and Lindsay and I spent many nights hanging out in each other’s rooms at our apartment talking about the boys and wishfully thinking out our weddings. This probably happened a little too much, but it also didn’t help that Pinterest came out during those years. I promise we weren’t crazy.

Lindsay’s wedding weekend kicked off at lunchtime on Friday with the cutest little bridesmaid luncheon. The decor was whimsical and fun (wishing I had taken more photos), and the food was delicious. They also had Brick Street Sweet Potato Cake, and even though we were all stuffed after lunch, we somehow made room for cake. You can’t not eat Brick Street’s cake when it’s offered to you.

All of the bridesmaids except one at the bridal luncheon. This was the tallest bridal party I’ve ever been a part of. Normally I feel like I tower over everyone else,  but there were a few bridesmaids that had me beat this time. I should also mention that Lindsay played basketball at Clemson and has quite a few tall, athletic friends (not me, obviously).

The rehearsal dinner was at The Davenport in Greer on Friday night, and once again, everything was just lovely.

One of my favorite things about weddings is the time you get to spend with out-of-town friends. All of my roommates were in the wedding, and we had so much fun hanging out with each other all weekend.

Everything went off without a hitch on Saturday. Lindsay looked gorgeous, and her dress was amazing. The ceremony was beautiful, and we had fun dancing the night away at the reception.

Tillman Place #123 reunites

LindsayWEddingRachel, the one on on the right in the pictures above (we have an order we always get in when we take pictures), is getting married in a few weeks on June 14, and I’m so excited to see everyone and do it all over again!
