Christmas Recap

Christmas 2014 was one for the books. We stayed around the Upstate, but we were able to see and spend time with both of our families over the holiday.

On Christmas Eve, we ate an early dinner with my dad’s side of the family. After dinner, Andrew and I came home and watched Christmas Vacation, a must-watch for me during the holiday season. I’m pretty sure my brother can quote the entire movie.

On Christmas morning, Andrew and I woke up and opened up our gifts from each other. Big gifts for Andrew were a new golf club and a USA soccer jersey. My big gift was a Kate Spade watch.

We headed over to my parents house mid-morning to eat brunch and open gifts with them.

On Christmas afternoon, we drove to Clemson to spend time with Andrew’s parents. We actually celebrated Christmas with his family a few weeks ago while his brother and his wife were in town, but we enjoyed breakfast for dinner with his parents on Christmas. We also finished up one of our projects, a second bench for our farmhouse table, while we were there.

We missed seeing the rest of his family for Christmas, but we’re heading down to his brother’s new home in Myrtle Beach next weekend to spend time with them and work on some house projects.

The day after Christmas, we celebrated with my mom’s side of the family. All of the cousins were able to be there, which is always fun. As everyone gets older and starts getting married and having kids, I realize that it’s harder for everyone to juggle schedules and get together like this. I’m so thankful we were able to be together and don’t want to take these times for granted.

The annual cousin picture is always entertaining. I’m honestly not sure if we’ve ever gotten a picture with everyone looking at the camera with their eyes open. I think we did pretty well this year, but the first picture gives you an idea of what it takes to get everyone in place for the picture.

“Christmastime is here…”

The Moore household is officially ready for Christmas. The decorations are up, shopping is well underway (well, at least mine is), a few gifts have been wrapped, and we watched our first Christmas movie last night.

Of course, we got to spend plenty of time with family over Thanksgiving as well. We headed to Aiken on Wednesday night and ate lunch with Andrew’s dad’s side of the family on Thursday. We headed back to Greenville on Thursday afternoon and ate dinner with my dad’s side of the family on that night. We finished up yesterday by having dinner with my mom’s side of the family.

Andrew and my sister got in the mood to go Black Friday shopping on Thursday night, so they headed out in the craziness after dinner. My brother went shopping too, so I ended up being the only one who didn’t go, which is very unusual since neither of my siblings are big shoppers. However, I was perfectly content bundling up at home and doing some online shopping from the comfort of my couch.

We finished up decorating our house yesterday and today. Here are a few pictures…

Tree collage

My aunt gave me that cute monogrammed ornament for my birthday. It was so fun to get our first ornament as a married couple. For the rest of the tree, we used a lot of ribbon, balls, and snowflakes since we are just starting out and don’t have any decorations. I love how it turned out and am excited to expand our collection of decorations and ornaments over the years.

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

We may or may not have already gotten our Christmas tree.

I know, I know, it’s not even Thanksgiving yet. I hear you and I get it. I’m not normally someone who goes all out for Christmas before Thanksgiving, but I’m also not a scrooge who bans all Christmas music until the day after Thanksgiving. I wasn’t even planning on getting a tree until this coming weekend.

And then I started to think about how everyone else is going to be getting their tree this weekend.

And how it’s going to be crowded and the trees might be picked over.

And the traffic will be terrible.

And then I started thinking about decorating.

All these things led to us loading up in the car and going to pick out a tree. No, we didn’t make a little day trip out of it and go to the mountains to pick out/cut down our tree – I didn’t even start wanting a tree until about 2:30pm yesterday. Instead we went to Lowe’s. Not quite as cute nor romantic, but their trees were priced well and we were able to pick up all our other supplies in one trip.

In my defense, Thanksgiving had already come and gone this time last year, so technically, I didn’t buy it that early since Thanksgiving is so late this year. And we don’t have all our decorations up. I’m decorating little by little. The lights and ribbon are on the tree, but I still have a lot of my fall decorations out.

I’ve really been looking forward to our first married Christmas together. I’ve been enjoying the season of “firsts” since we got married in April. It’s so fun to be able to start our own family traditions that will hopefully be passed down from year to year.

Let the one month countdown until Christmas begin!
